Sunrisers Hyderabad’s poor run in IPL 2025 continued as they faced their fourth consecutive defeat, this time at the hands of Gujarat Titans, in a match where Washington Gill and Siraj Shine stole the spotlight. Playing on a sluggish surface at home, SRH could only manage a modest total of 152/8, which Gujarat chased down comfortably, sealing a comprehensive 7-wicket win and continuing their unbeaten streak.
Washington Gill and Siraj Shine: Sundar-Gill Partnership Breaks SRH’s Back
Batting first, SRH were immediately under pressure as Travis Head fell to Mohammed Siraj in the opening over. Abhishek Sharma got a few boundaries but was sent back by Siraj again in the fifth. With Washington Gill and Siraj Shine on display, Ishan Kishan and Nitish Reddy tried to steady the innings but failed to accelerate, leaving SRH struggling at 45/2 by the end of the PowerPlay.
The middle overs saw little momentum. Klaasen hit the only six in the 13th over, while Sai Kishore bowled a tight spell and cleaned up Klaasen just as he looked dangerous. Nitish tried attacking Rashid Khan but fell soon after. In a match where Washington Gill and Siraj Shine, Siraj returned with a fiery second spell, picking up two more wickets to finish with figures of 4/17, including 17 dot balls. Cummins’s late cameo of 22 from 9 balls lifted SRH past 150.
Chasing 153, Gujarat were rocked early as Shami removed Sudharsan and Cummins dismissed Jos Buttler for a duck. But the move to promote Washington Sundar to No.4 proved to be a masterstroke. He counter-attacked with a 20-run over off Simarjeet Singh, shifting momentum.
Sundar and Gill added 90 runs for the third wicket. While Sundar played the aggressor, Gill held firm, playing classy strokes including a sublime cover drive off Cummins. SRH’s bowlers lacked impact in the middle overs, with even Rashid Khan going wicketless.
Washington Gill and Siraj Shine in a gripping contest where Sundar’s innings ended on a debatable third-umpire catch, but the damage was done. Rutherford finished things off with a flurry of boundaries, helping GT seal the win with 5 balls to spare. With this result, Gujarat remain unbeaten, while SRH continue to search for answers.
