Brazil’s Claims May Lead to Action Against Argentina

Argentina

It’s been almost three weeks since the match ended, but Brazil still hasn’t moved on from their 4-1 loss to Argentina. Now, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) is thinking about complaining to FIFA about what happened during that World Cup qualifier in March. The complaint could be about racist behavior from some Argentine fans during the game.

According to TYC Sports, a well-known Argentine sports news outlet, the CBF is getting ready to file an official complaint against the Argentine Football Association (AFA), following pressure from Brazilian fans.

The complaint says that some Argentine fans made racist and rude gestures toward Brazilians during the match. One fan was even seen acting like a monkey—something that’s taken very seriously in world football. The CBF has gathered video evidence and wants the issue resolved before FIFA’s next international break in June.

If the accusations are confirmed, Argentina, the current world champions, could face a ban from FIFA. Earlier, they were punished for offensive chants during a game against Uruguay. As a result, FIFA allowed their next match at the Monumental Stadium with only 75% of its seating capacity.

FIFA also warned that if it happened again, crowd attendance would be reduced to 50%. Similar punishments were given to Chile during a match against Ecuador, and Brazil for the disorder during their game against Argentina at the Maracana.

Argentina is set to play Colombia at home on June 9. If the new claims are proven true, they might be banned from that match too.
