Gurugram (Haryana): Punjabi Tigers began the Global Indian Pravasi Kabaddi League (GI-PKL) with a close 33-31 win over the Tamil Lions at Gurugram University. Even though the Tamil Lions had more raid points (19), the Tigers’ strong defense helped them win by scoring 13 tackle points and forcing two all-outs. They stayed calm in the final minutes to secure the victory.
In the second match, Haryanvi Sharks won a tight game against Telugu Panthers 47-43. Both teams performed well in raids and tackles, but the Sharks’ extra points and one key super raid made the difference. Despite the Panthers managing four super tackles, the Sharks held on to win by four points.
The last match of the day saw a dominant performance by the Marathi Vultures, who beat Bhojpuri Leopards 42-21. The Vultures impressed with 22 tackle points and five super tackles, completely overpowering their opponents and enforcing four all-outs.

Earlier, Haryana Sports Minister Gaurav Gautam officially opened the GI-PKL, which will run for 13 days, ending with the finals on April 30 at the Gurugram University multipurpose hall.
The opening event was attended by several important guests, including Gaurav Gautam, D. Suresh (Principal Secretary, Government of Haryana), Kanthi D. Suresh (President of HIPSA and acting World Kabaddi president), and Ashok Das.
The league matches will continue until April 27. The men’s semifinals will take place on April 28, followed by the women’s semifinals on April 29. The finals for both men and women are scheduled for April 30.
