The President of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Edinaldo Rodriguez, had tried before to bring Carlo Ancelotti as Brazil’s coach, but it didn’t work out. Now that Darival Junior has been removed from the role, Ancelotti is once again seen as “the president’s dream.” But there are still some uncertainties.
Good news for Brazilian fans came from the media outlet The Athletic, which reported that Ancelotti is expected to leave his job as Real Madrid’s head coach soon—and that he may be heading to coach Brazil. The Italian manager reportedly has a few choices, including staying in a non-coaching role in Madrid, but he is likely to pick Brazil.
Brazil has been searching for a new coach since firing Darival Junior in March. While Brazil continues to stay in touch with Ancelotti, the coach has said he won’t leave Madrid unless the club decides to end his contract. A recent clue that the club-coach relationship might be ending was when CBF officials visited Madrid the night of their Champions League loss to Arsenal. More talks are expected this week.

When the media asked, a CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) spokesperson denied the report. He said that Rodrigo Cayetano, the Executive General Coordinator of the Brazil team, and CBF President Rodrigues are handling the coach search. Both are currently in Rio de Janeiro.
Despite this denial, The Athletic still insists that Ancelotti will become Brazil’s coach. Their claim is based on the idea that Ancelotti will speak with Real Madrid officials about his future after the Copa del Rey final on April 26. Real Madrid will play Barcelona in that final, which kicks off at 2 a.m. Bangladesh time on April 27. The outcome of that match could affect Ancelotti’s future with Real.
There have been many talks this season about Real Madrid possibly letting go of Ancelotti. Some say club legend and current Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso might replace him. Analysts think he has a good chance of becoming the next Real Madrid coach.
There are other reasons why Ancelotti might leave. Last season’s treble winners have already lost the Spanish Super Cup, were knocked out in the Champions League quarterfinals, and are behind Barcelona in La Liga. For now, we’ll have to wait and see if these rumors turn out to be true.
