BCB Security Liaison Officer Passes Away

BCB Security Liaison Officer Passes Away during BAN vs ZIM Test: The Bangladesh cricket community is in deep mourning after the sudden passing of Ikram Chowdhury, a long-serving security liaison officer for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Ikram, 50, suffered a fatal heart attack while on duty during the ongoing Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe Test match at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium (SICS). Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he could not be saved.

Ikram had been associated with the BCB since 2014 and was widely respected within the cricketing fraternity for his commitment, discipline, and dedication. His sudden demise has sent shockwaves throughout the organization and among those who knew him personally and professionally.

The tragedy occurred during Day 3 of the Test match at Sylhet, a fixture drawing heavy interest from local fans. According to venue manager Joydeep Das, Ikram was at the stadium carrying out his official responsibilities when he suffered a massive heart attack.

“He collapsed while doing his duty,” said Joydeep. “We immediately rushed him to Al Haramain Hospital. He was taken to the CCU and later the ICU. Despite being on life support, the doctors could not save him.”

The BCB, in a statement, expressed its sorrow and extended condolences to Ikram’s family. A moment of silence was observed at the stadium before play resumed, and BCB officials, players, and staff wore black armbands to honor his memory.

While the match continued, the emotional weight of Ikram’s passing was evident. The Test match itself saw Zimbabwe taking a strong position against the hosts. After electing to bat first, Bangladesh were bundled out for just 191 runs in 41 overs. Their batting lineup crumbled under disciplined bowling by the Zimbabwean pacers.

Zimbabwe responded with confidence, posting 273 runs in their first innings. Their lead of 82 runs was built on solid half-centuries by Brian Bennett (57) and Sean Williams (59). The Bangladesh bowlers struggled to find consistent breakthroughs.

Blessing Muzarabani emerged as Zimbabwe’s hero with the ball. After taking 3 wickets in the first innings, he ran through the Bangladeshi batting lineup in the second, claiming 6 wickets for 72 runs. His accuracy and pace were too much for the hosts, who managed 255 in their second innings.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto scored a fighting 60, and Jaker Ali contributed 58, but Bangladesh could only set a modest target of 174 for Zimbabwe.

With the visitors in a commanding position, the focus shifted to the somber atmosphere surrounding the game. Players and fans alike struggled to come to terms with the loss of a key BCB official who had dedicated over a decade of service to the sport.

Tributes poured in from players, officials, and journalists who knew Ikram. Described as humble, hardworking, and always professional, his death is being mourned across the nation.

A BCB board member said, “He was the kind of person who never sought attention but was always there when you needed him. His absence will be felt deeply.”

The BCB is reportedly planning a tribute during an upcoming match to formally honor Ikram Chowdhury’s legacy. His passing serves as a stark reminder of the silent heroes in the cricketing ecosystem, those who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the game goes on smoothly and securely.

As the Test match nears its end, Bangladesh continues to battle on the field, but the real loss this week goes far beyond cricketing outcomes.
