Former Kabaddi star Deepak Hooda’s wife accused him of dowry harassment in February.
Deepak Niwas Hooda, former Indian Kabaddi captain and BJP leader, is now caught in a legal dispute. His wife, former boxing world champion Saweety Boora, had accused him of dowry harassment in February. Recently, she raised a new complaint, alleging that the police have not taken any action on her case against the 2016 South Asian Games Gold Medalist.
Saweety Boora, who married Hooda in 2022, held a press conference on March 23, claiming that Hisar police had not questioned him despite her formal complaint. She also stated that instead of acting against Hooda, the police called her to the Hisar women’s police station on March 15, where she discovered that Hooda had filed countercharges against her.
Police officers have not questioned Deepak Hooda in the last 45 days. Instead, on March 15, they called me to the Hisar women’s police station, where Deepak was already present. He filed a false case against me, my father Mahender Singh, and my maternal uncle Satyawan, accusing us of misbehaving and injuring him.
The police registered a case against us, and two days ago, we were forced to stay at the Hisar Sadar police station for a day before being released on bail. Meanwhile, Deepak is roaming freely, and the SP has taken no action against him,” Saweety Boora claimed, according to Hindustan Times.
This situation escalated after Saweety Boora filed an FIR against Hooda on February 25 at the Hisar police station, accusing him of dowry harassment. SHO Seema confirmed the case, stating, “An FIR was filed on February 25 based on Saweety Boora’s complaint against her husband, Deepak Hooda. We sent him notices 2-3 times, but he did not appear,” she told PTI.
Hooda, however, claimed that his absence was due to health issues. “I have submitted a medical certificate and requested a later date. I will go to the police station, but I won’t say anything bad about my wife. I haven’t been allowed to meet her,” he told PTI.
According to Hindustan Times, Shashank Kumar Sawan filed a complaint with the Hisar SP, accusing her husband, ex-Kabaddi player Deepak Hooda, and her sister-in-law Poonam of harassing her for dowry. She claimed they forced her father to buy a Fortuner SUV instead of a Creta before the wedding. She also alleged that Hooda pressured her to arrange ₹1 crore for his 2024 election campaign when he contested (and lost) from Meham on a BJP ticket. Additionally, she said he made her quit boxing and stay at home.
In response, Hooda lodged a counter-complaint with Rohtak police, accusing Boora’s family of financial exploitation. He alleged that before their marriage, they took large sums of money from him to buy a plot in Hisar. After their wedding, he claimed Boora’s father took ₹25 lakh, her brother ₹12 lakh, her sister ₹9 lakh, and Boora herself received ₹17 lakh before marriage.
Hooda further alleged that Boora attacked him with a knife while he was asleep and later threatened to ruin his political career when he refused to give her more money.
