Former Cricketer Kiran More in Line for BCCI Top Post

Kiran

Former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Kiran More is now the leading candidate to become the next BCCI president. Sources say the board also contacted a few well-known ex-players from the West Zone, including one from Saurashtra, but most state associations seem to agree on More.

This comes after Roger Binny resigned on July 19, having reached the BCCI’s age limit of 70 for office-bearers. Since his resignation, vice-president Rajeev Shukla has been managing the board’s top operations.

IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal said that the BCCI elections, which were supposed to happen on September 28, probably won’t take place this year. Instead, if everyone agrees, a candidate could be chosen without holding a formal election.

“Everyone seems to agree. Most state associations support the BCCI’s wish to have Kiran More as president. We should hear the final decision soon,” sources told NDTV.

Kiran

Kiran More was born in 1962 and played for India from 1984 to 1993, appearing in 49 Test matches and 94 ODIs. He was part of India’s Asia Cup-winning teams in 1988 and 1991. After retiring as a player, More took on important roles in cricket coaching and administration.

Kiran More has previously been the BCCI’s Chairman of Selectors and worked as a wicketkeeping consultant for Mumbai Indians in the IPL. In 2019, he became the Director of Cricket and interim coach for USA Cricket, helping rebuild their system after the team gained ODI status. He currently serves as Chairman of the Cricket Advisory Committee for the Baroda Cricket Association.

If More becomes BCCI president, it would be the first time a former player returns to the board’s top position, showing a focus on cricketing experience in leadership. With India hosting major global tournaments soon, including the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, his appointment could come at an important time for Indian cricket.
