Umar Gul, who retired from international cricket in 2020, told Cricbuzz on April 7 that talks are ongoing regarding his potential appointment, saying, ‘We are in talks, but nothing is confirmed yet. The confirmation depends on mutual understanding and terms and conditions, and that is dependent on the board,’ he said, as Gul Set for Exciting Coaching Role becomes a growing headline in cricket circles.

Andre Adams, currently under contract until February 2026, is expected to step down early due to dissatisfaction within the team. He will continue for the two-match Test series against Zimbabwe but may not stay beyond that.

Apart from Gul, BCB is also considering former Australian pacer Shaun Tait, and ex-Bangladesh bowling coaches Allan Donald and Ottis Gibson as possible replacements.

In related developments, BCB has extended the contract of head coach Phil Simmons until the 2027 ICC World Cup. They have also finalized a verbal agreement with Mohammad Salahuddin to return as senior assistant coach. Salahuddin, who has previously served as both assistant and batting coach, is expected to play a vital role in Bangladesh’s preparations for upcoming assignments. Meanwhile, news of Gul Set for Exciting Coaching Role has also stirred interest in the cricketing circles.

These changes highlight BCB’s ongoing effort to strengthen their coaching setup ahead of a busy international calendar.
