Coaches are often seen expressing their incompetence in decisions that go against them on the field of play. However, in the incident of Kylian Mbappe’s red card in Real Madrid’s match against Alaves, the coach spoke in the tone of a referee.
Real Madrid assistant coach Davide Ancelotti accepted the decision of the red card. Without any hesitation, he said, “It was a clear red card.”
Real, who are in a bad time, also gave a tough test on the field of Alaves last Sunday. Real took the lead in the 34th minute of the match. However, four minutes later, Mbappe fouled Antonio Blanco. Initially, the referee showed a yellow card. Later, after watching the replay on the VAR monitor, he changed his decision and showed a straight red card.
Despite playing with 10 men for the rest of the game, Real Madrid won 1-0. They won 1-0. Head coach Carlo Ancelotti’s son Davide Ancelotti was in charge of the dugout for the match due to his suspension.
The coach said in a post-match press conference, “I haven’t spoken to him (Mbappe) yet (after the incident). Kylian is not a violent boy; he understands what he did and he apologized. It was a clear red card foul and he suffered the consequences.”
“(Before that incident) he was bullied many times, and as a result he reacted in that way, which is not right. I’m not condoning his behavior, but that’s what happened.”
