Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone took the blame for his team’s poor performances in away matches after they lost 2-0 to Osasuna in LaLiga on Thursday.
This defeat was another setback, as Atletico have now won just one of their last six away games and haven’t scored in the last three.
Speaking at a press conference, Simeone said, “We played better today than we did against Alaves and Las Palmas, but it’s clear I haven’t been able to motivate the players to give their best in away matches.”
He added, “I’m looking at myself. It’s my responsibility that the team can’t perform in away games the same way they do at home.”
Atletico didn’t look motivated in their match against Osasuna, a team hoping to play in European competition after nearly 20 years.
“We had chances early in the game to score but missed them,” Simeone said.
“Osasuna had a free-kick that almost went in, and just after that, we made a mistake. They used their height well and scored.
“In the second half, we had more control of the game, but we didn’t create strong chances like we did before the break. Then Budimir scored a great goal, and now we have to accept the loss.”
