Ajinkya Rahane was injured while fielding
IPL 2025: Kolkata Knight Riders have kept their playoff hopes alive by defeating Delhi Capitals by 14 runs in the last match. The team is currently at the seventh position in the points table with four wins in 10 matches. Meanwhile, good news is not coming out from the KKR camp.
Captain Ajinkya Rahane was injured while fielding in the match against Delhi. According to ESPNcricinfo, the severity of Rahane’s injury will be assessed by KKR’s medical staff on May 1.
Ajinkya Rahane gave an update regarding his injury

Ajinkya Rahane tried to stop a shot from Faf du Plessis off Andre Russell during the 11th over of the match against Delhi Capitals and the ball hit his finger. Rahane was seen in pain and then left the field with the KKR team physio. Rahane did not return to the field and KKR vice-captain Venkatesh Iyer was replaced by Vaibhav Arora as an impact sub, and all-rounder Sunil Narine took over the captaincy.
Rahane said about his injury at the post-match presentation, “It is not bad. I will be fine”. While giving an update, his teammate Anukul Roy said at the post-match press conference, “It does not seem to be very serious. It may take two or three days. Only the doctor will be able to tell everything, but he is fine now. He has got some stitches, but he is fine.”
How Kolkata Knight Riders can reach the playoffs
With just four wins and a draw after 10 matches, Kolkata Knight Riders are unlikely to make it to the playoffs. For the franchise to finish in the top-4, they need to ensure wins in three of their remaining four league matches. If that happens, with 15 points after the league stage, KKR will be in the top-4 and can make it to the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
