The third day’s match was cancelled due to rain.
The only Test match between Afghanistan and New Zealand was to be played at Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground in Greater Noida, but in the three-day game, the toss has not even taken place in this match. Due to rain and bad outfield, the game on the first and second day was spoiled, while the same happened on the third day. There was not much rain at night, but it started raining from the morning of the third day.
The Officials Cancelled The Third Day’s Play
For this reason, the officials cancelled the third day’s play at the beginning of the third day itself. In this way, the coin could not be tossed on the third day as well. Now the chances of this match happening are very less and the more chances are that the match may be cancelled. This Test match was to be played from September 9, but it rained that night, so the match did not start at its scheduled time. Although the pitch was fine for the match, some parts of the outfield were flooded.
AFG Vs NZ: Test Match Did Not Start Despite The Efforts Of The Ground Staff
The ground staff tried their best to start the match, but they did not succeed in it. Many times the umpires and match officials inspected the pitch and the ground, but despite many inspections, the toss could not be done in this match. On the second day, the ground staff applied a new trick and wherever there was water in the field, the grass and land was dug up and the grass of the practice ground was planted there. But still nothing special was achieved from this.
There Was Water In Some Places In Other Parts As Well
Despite planting the grass, there was water in some places in other parts as well and the ground was not suitable for playing the match. Due to this the match was canceled on the second day as well. The match was expected to start on the third day, but due to the rain at night the ground had become wet again. More than half the ground was covered, but still there was water in many parts.
Apart from this, it rained heavily at the time of starting the match on the third day and the situation became even worse. Due to this the game had to be canceled on the third day. The Afghanistan Cricket Board has said that if the conditions are right on the fourth day, the match will start at 9 o’clock and 98 overs will be played. But this does not seem possible right now.
